Mirela Petkova is a documentary photographer based in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Her work has focused on personal stories of people and communities navigating everyday life in Bulgaria such as young women and mothers, people suffering from schizophrenia, and seniors. She is interested in pursuing stories that delve into the crucial issues of our time – armed conflict, gender, social exclusion and inequality, youth, identity.

After getting a degree in international relations, she became involved in journalism. Mirela participated in the VII Foundation’s Level 1 educational program for documentary photography in Southeast Europe. She previously attended documentary photography courses at the BECA Center of Visual Storytelling in Sofia, Bulgaria.
